Yoga and Timeful Experience
February 22, 2022How Yoga Transforms Our Relationship with Stress
March 9, 2023What comes to mind when you reflect on 2022? I think of a year that has recalibrated my sensitivity toward degrees of change. It seems that the dosage level has increased; with fluctuations in temperature, gas prices, and precipitation (to name a few). I’ve noticed a reflex in myself to narrow my lens, and think less about the trends, and more about what’s present now; what’s needed personally, in our family, and the Kushala community. More salient than ever is a feeling of gratitude for who and what is supporting us, and resiliency in the face of what is not.
Being life partners and studio partners, Chris and I have a neverending explicit and implicit conversation about the lifecycle of our studio. We trust that we are still here because there is a need for a grounding movement practice. It helps us feel what is real and fleetingly certain: the feelings of being alive in this moment. This arises in the midst of a lot of unknowns.
Thank you for getting on your mat with us, whether in the studio or joining us online. For all of us, teachers, karma yogi helpers, and you, our community: each practice is an exchange of energy, attention and warmth. The truth is, what we often offer is a practice of “supported discomfort”, to feel contentment in a larger coordinate system: your life. Hold for another breath, turn in towards the feelings, keep steady, your almost there.
As we move into a new year, we seek to grow personally, in our teaching, and our offering as your yoga studio. We thank each of you for continuing to connect with us, even if it’s by reading this message and holding an intention to return to your mat one day.
We hope to see you often in 2023.
With warmth and gratitude,
Karen and Chris
