Endings and Beginnings

November 30, 2011Challenges
We all face them at some point. Sometimes purposefully (as in the 30 day challenge) and sometimes by circumstance. What we do with them is up to each of us. Will you power your way through? Shy away? Meet them head on? Make excuses? Take it a day at a time? Decide moment by moment what the most appropriate choice is? It’s up to you…
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Here’s what one of our members sent us after going through a challenging time…
As an international-level distance runner, injuries are a part of the package, and in the beginning of February I injured my knee. Over the next few weeks I proceeded to take time off running and just do other exercises. Unfortunately, whenever I would try to run again I would be back at square one. After a month and a half of physiotherapy, various strengthening routines and lots of icing I decided to go back to yoga. I usually attended one class a week, however this time I decided I was going to do no other exercise but yoga, and attend at least one class a day. After only one week of yoga I could run up to 30 minutes without pain (opposed to less than 5 minutes a week before). After the second week I started running 100km weeks again. After such frustration with the injury, simply doing the yoga I enjoy on a daily basis returned me to a state where I could train again. Without yoga I don’t think I could train as hard as I do.

Do your challenges make you or break you? What have they taught you? If you’re in the 30 day challenge, what brought you to it and how’s it going so far?
We’d love to hear about your challenges and how you’ve chosen to face them… or not.
